What is the story of the most isolated house in the world?

Elliðaey Island, southern Iceland: this is where the most isolated house in the world is located!

The house is the only one of the 45 hectares of surface occupied by the island.

The house is immersed in a green land and is surrounded by large cliffs. More than a real home, it is a refuge, that is, a large shed built of wood and which functions as a shelter for biologists, as well as for fishermen and which can be used for equipment and as a natural sauna.

The refuge was built in 1953 by the Elliðaey Hunting Association, and since then it has been very rarely visited by people... on the island, in fact, the most present living beings are puffins, not humans.

How do you get to Elliðaey Island?

The only way to reach Elliðaey island is by sea, by boat. If you have a sufficiently agile and solid boat, you can dock in one of the very few points on the island that allow it and, after a short but medium difficulty climb up the rocks, you find yourself on the flat, grassy surface of the island.

The island of Elliðaey is part of the Vestmannaeyjar archipelago which includes 18 small islands, of which only one is inhabited, all off the south coast of Iceland.

If the sea allows it, especially in summer, it is possible to sail along the coast and land on Elliðaey and, at that point, walking until you reach the hut is a must!
