Foreigners in love with Liguria

Americans, Germans, and French continue to search for homes in Liguria, and the Tigullio Gulf area remains the most sought-after by international buyers. The most sought-after property type remains an apartment, followed by villas and detached houses. The average budget is around €100,000, and the peak in inquiries comes from clients from Austria, Belgium, and Australia.

"Foreigners visit the region as tourists, fall in love with an area, and then begin looking for a second home, either to spend part of the year or to relocate. Liguria's numbers indicate a positive trend in interest from international investors," says Simone Rossi, co-founder of Gate-away.com.

Based on data from the survey conducted in the first half of 2024, the Tigullio Gulf area remains the preferred one, with 16.82% of the total inquiries for the period. Meanwhile, the area experiencing the greatest growth compared to the same period last year is Lunigiana, with a 17.39% increase. Among the provinces, Imperia is the most sought-after, with 38.76% of requests for the period. Genoa follows with 29.66% (which recorded the highest annual growth), Savona with 19.63%, and La Spezia with 11.95%. As for municipalities, Portofino is the most popular, with 13.25% of all requests. Sanremo follows with 6.64%, Bordighera with 4.3%, and Ceriana with 3.73%.

"The richness and diversity of Ligurian specialties contribute to making Liguria a unique place, attractive both to visitors from around the world and to those who choose to live here," comments Simone Rossi, co-founder of the web company Gate-away.com.

The greatest interest comes from US residents, with 21.09% of all requests. Germany follows with 15.78% of the vote, France with 8.95% of requests, and the United Kingdom with 6.42%. The best result in terms of increases compared to the same period in 2023 was achieved by Austria with +65%, followed by Belgium with +38.26% and Australia with +34%.
